Centuries have passed since the boy was disturbed from his coffin, and he would have likely gone for a few more centuries had the area not been under attack by the Empire. It was something of an odd circumstance in which the town, insignificant in and of itself, was more than less in the crossfires of the Kings Glaiveβs finest. The ground had split open and it was a bout two months afterward the townsfolk discovered the underground temple. It was fortified by steel walls, thick doors, and long dark hallways. Electricity once worked down there as there were switches, lights, and other things like old boxed computers, it was nothing like what technology looked like today.
They discovered more and more of the rooms and pathways, completely undisturbed by daemons and eventually they came across a strange room with empty shells that looked like giant eggs on a conveyer belt. In a room stood a lone egg, not a speck of dust would be found in the pristine white-room, and once the villagers got their lights set up in the room they could make out a ghostly figure of a young boy who simply appeared to be asleep. As if a spell was put over him.
Some began to speculate this was the crystalβs doing and perhaps these egg shaped pods were designed from the crystalβs power. That they were organized here, obviously, through great effort from the ancient civilization that dwelled here so many years ago.
Yet, one brave townsperson brushed their hand against the pod and the white egg began to pull apart like a flower blooming in the light of the sun. Hushed voices and curious whispers sounded through the room at the sight and then gasps as the boy began to move forward with a breath.
From there, the rest was history. As in, nothing was ever going to be the same again. A week or so after the boy woke things began to change in the small remote town. The people began to obsess and fuss over the boy and began to call him the sleeping prince. The townβs physicians and healers fret over the condition of the boy and tried their best to bring color back to the boyβs cheeks but nothing seemed to help. What certainly didnβt help, however, was the sunβs light and they soon adjusted their routine, around the boy, to be done so at night.
It was three weeks since the boyβs awakening did it finally happen. Sora took his first draw of blood on the wrist that reached over his face to dab a cool clothe to his forehead. It surprised them both but with just the taste of the blood in his mouth he regained color, energy, and his voice. Which is why they had come to know him as Sora. After that he regularly began to feed on the villagers and regain health at a much more rapid speed than he had with the food and drink they had tried to give him prior. It was clear to them all what Sora was and what he needed. There wasnβt one villager who had the resistance to deny Sora his drink. Perhaps that was part of the allure and soon enough the village turned solemn and grey, but happy as the villagers flocked to Sora to provide him his meal.
This, however, began to leak of suspicion as travelers came with trade and noted the pale state of the town as they wandered through expecting business as normal. Yet, they were turned away with their goods and left with more questions than they cared for.

Date: 2018-08-26 08:11 pm (UTC)Still, he's seen some cases of people being thralls before. Some willingly and of their own free will; others tricked into it, or even forced into such a state. But a whole town turning pale yet happy, after discovering some lad one day? Either there's a very tricky troublemaker at play or...
Well, in either case, a 'lesson' seems to be needed here. Riding into town in his usual Crownsguard fatigues, he ties up his chocobo at the rental pole in front of the local gas station. The trader who tipped him off had advised him that anyone coming by bird seems to not set off the newfound distrust among the town's folks...but will it work?

Date: 2018-08-26 08:52 pm (UTC)Whispers, however, may be over heard as Cor maneuvers through the streets and passes by the windows of homes. Whispers of the boy prince and his special needs.
In fact, one hour after sundown the towns folk seemed to gather around the mayorβs home, and with them they brought fresh cut flowers and precious gifts for the boy. Even the children were excited to meet up again with the prince as Sora has taken to entertain and play with the other children.
Enraptured by the prince they townsfolk paid little mind to Cor and his presence as they gathered around for Sora to wake. Whispers swept across the crowd. βNo, itβs mine he likes the most! He reminds me of my grandson.. when he was just a boy.. oh he was ever so sweet,β an elder woman was heard scolding another member of the town. Then, more voices began to chirp in with their own obvious pleas for being βtheir turnβ and how the boy prince reminds them of someone or other; mostly of those who have passed or have grown into adults!

Date: 2018-08-26 09:05 pm (UTC)Well, odd for anyone who isn't as well-knowledgeable as Cor is.
He listens to the rumors, and it takes effort to keep his usual stoic front up. For some body to be called a 'prince', and not even claim to be a long-lost member of the Line of Lucis... It doesn't sit right in the Marshall's mind. Which is why he's joining the crowd around the mayor's house that night, bearing a small package in his hands. He takes in what everyone is saying, and simply turns towards the most likely person(s) to talk to him.
"Sorry, but I'm kinda new in town. Mind catching me up on who this new prince is? And how we're supposed to help him?" Keep it civil and polite...he can be blunt towards the 'prince' as soon as he gets an actual minute or two alone with him.

Date: 2018-08-26 09:14 pm (UTC)A young red head bounced behind Cor and wiggled her way through the crowd. βNah! He said I looked like Kairi! So call me Kairi! KAIRI β¦ Dingus!β She giggled and pushed herself up toward the front of the crowd. Soon the next child to follow, obviously the one βKairiβ was talking to brushed up against Cor with an apologetic greeting, βOh! βullo Ser, surro! Bout that!β He huffed and puffed. He had blond hair and brown eyes. βShe letβn it all get to her head!β He excused himself between two people before Cor and soon melted into the crowd ahead.
Elosβ brother began speaking up again. βBeen β¦ not too long, but already weβre all looking forward to the night again.. you know how long thatβs been? Since we were able to look forward to the night? He keeps us safe, see, from the daemons.. theyβre not interested in him and heβs strong, this good boy.. heβs keeping us safe.β He chuckles. βJust like Elos wanted to only ever do..β

Date: 2018-08-26 09:25 pm (UTC)And yet... Cor looks around at everyone standing around, so eager as to be out at night and feeling safe in this lad's presence... A part of him really hopes that this kid really is protecting this town from daemons. Another, bitter part him, though, suspects and fears that it might all be in their heads...
"I'm sure Elos would be happy to see this kid, too," Cor adds. Still, the idea of daemons not being interested in someone...there's very few beings that would have that reaction...and none of them human. Nodding his thanks to the older man, Cor slowly begins to work his way to the front - partially to try and see this 'boy prince' up close. But also to find those kids.
Kids, after all, say the darnest things sometimes...

Date: 2018-08-26 09:31 pm (UTC)The mayor looked back to Cor and he clapped his hands together. βPlease, allow oneβa us to escort you to a room with some food and waterβ¦ then you may rest and be on your way, ser!β

Date: 2018-08-26 09:35 pm (UTC)"On the contrary, your Honor," Cor speaks up as he steps closer, "I wish to speak with the young man that you've taken in. You...mentioned that he needs his meal..." Honestly, it's not the first time he's been fed upon...but always on his own terms and no one else's.

Date: 2018-08-26 09:48 pm (UTC)Inside Sora was waking, his head lulling from left to right. A strange vision plaguing his dreams of a time he could scarcely remember. A woman, no .. she was a girl, just a girl, blue eyes.. blond hairβ
then nothing. It disturbed him, it always did, and then there was nothing and he wakes. He jostles and sits up to find himself alone in the room, a great sadness soon overwhelms him and he pulls the sheets off his legs. Heβs wearing a long nightgown, strings tie up the front of it to just above his chest, and his hair is as wild as it ever was. He looks at his toes and soon moves them off the bed and steps down to the ground with a weak stance. Where is everyone? Usually someones always here when he wakes and he likes it best when they were.
βHullo?β He calls out to his empty room and moves for the door.
The mayor bids his time and soon the door behind him opens and he turns with shock as Sora peeks out of it with bright blue eyes and a front to his face. The crowd quietens down and soon the boy speaks, βIβ¦ I thought youβve left me.. alone..β He says sadly and many of the people in the crowd speak up with rejection of the very idea.

Date: 2018-08-26 09:57 pm (UTC)But he takes a deep breath and resists the urge to give in to his more sentimental side. At least, not now. He has a job to do, after all.
"You have very good people looking after you, who cares about you," Cor agrees. He takes a step forward, keeping his movements as non-threatening as possible. "How are you feeling? Are you hungry?" He's gauging the boy's reactions...as well as that of the crowd. He's not here to cause trouble, but considering how worried the mayor already is...

Date: 2018-08-26 10:02 pm (UTC)βUm.. is.. is it okay, I can have some.. more?β Even with the countless nights Soraβs had his first taste of blood heβs still far too shy to outright say it. βJust.. a lil?β
Then a roar of volunteers began to offer their assistance with his inquiry, enough that he jumps back and hugs the frame of the door. Sometimes they were all a bit much, but he only ever wanted to make them happy really. Happy and safe! He didnβt like it when they argued though, especially over him!

Date: 2018-08-26 10:14 pm (UTC)"...aw, shit." The quiet words slip out before he could stop himself. This isn't just a kid who happens to drink blood. He's a fledgling vampire. But...usually they have someone guiding them, making sure that their hunger is controlled or otherwise abated. Normally their sire...
And yet, there doesn't seem to be any other vampires in the town, if the crowd here is meant to include everyone...
Cor glances over at the mayor. "You're going to establish some order, or do I have to offer myself up instead?" A bit of his traditional bluntness wouldn't hurt now.
no subject
Date: 2018-08-26 10:33 pm (UTC)βNow, weβve got an order.. remember! Um, lets see.. what is it now..β The mayor mumbled a bit before a few volunteers pressed up the steps of the mayorβs home. βOh, is it you? Okay.. okay.. one at a time, donβt fluster him now!β The mayor looked over to Cor and gathered his hands together. βWill you wait until heβs fed, ser? Heβs just a boy, as you saw.. yes, just a boyβ¦ a good boy.. you know, he must stay here.. with us.. heβs the chosen one, one to look after us and we him.. our treasure, a gift from the crystal!β
no subject
Date: 2018-08-26 10:53 pm (UTC)Yet...there's still something off about how everyone seems to be falling over themselves wanting to feed and protect him, even after knowing what he is...
"Of course...though I'm curious as to how he could be tied to the Crystal. I thought only those from the Line of Lucis would have such an honor." Was this some long-lost member of that same family line? Or is this some other form of influence showing itself?
no subject
Date: 2018-08-26 10:59 pm (UTC)Behind the mayor the volunteers went in and the rest of the crowd waited to get a glimpse of Sora once he was ready to come out.
Someone behind Cor spoke up, a middle-aged woman and she had a loud voice that quieted everyone else around her. βSora is our champion!β The others softly whispered in agreement. βYou canβt have him..β Again there were whispers of agreement.
The mayor held out his hands. βNonsense! Shh, people.. donβt start that talk! Our good Kingβs man here has said nothing of the sort.. calm yourselvesβ¦ be still.β

Date: 2018-08-26 11:29 pm (UTC)"He's right," Cor tells the crowd. "I'm not here to take him away. Merely to see who he is...and if he needs help."
He then turns back to the mayor. "How did he come to be in that state? Is he a native of these parts? I only ask because if he is tied to the Crystal, I'm sure that his Majesty would want to lend some form of aid..." They still seem friendly in regards the the Crown...surely, that wouldn't bother them, right?

Date: 2018-08-26 11:39 pm (UTC)The mayor turned and gestured toward his door, he insisted Cor follow him inside and once they both were inside the mayor lead Cor to the visiting room to the left of the foyer. There he took a seat and offered Cor one for himself. βSome months agoβ¦ the Kingβs glaive drove the Empire back into our landsβ¦ there was a terrible fight and bombs cracked the earth up north in our town. Some were hurt, some were lost between lava and earth..β He cleared his throat and gestured to himself. βI lead the team up that way, see what the damage was.. what could be salvaged and thatβs when he saw the holeβ¦ a new system, we thought, a cave or something.. but it wasnβt so.. rather, it was steel and brick that met us down there.. a home, a building.. a tomb, β¦ ah, a tomb we come to find out.. seen this boy sleeping in a crystal egg!β
The mayor gently tapped his knee as he told the story. βHeβs sleeping in a room, clean as if it were kept each and every day.β
no subject
Date: 2018-08-26 11:49 pm (UTC)Still, he keeps a stoically curious look on his face as he follows the mayor inside, settling himself into the offered chair. Muttering condolences at the mention of the fighting, Cor does vaguely recall reports of battles being waged in this area around that time frame. He will have to question Titus Drautos about it when he gets back. Or Clarus....
However, his eyebrows shoot up upon hearing of an underground tomb being found, with the kid just sleeping inside a...crystal egg? "Do you know how far back this...tomb goes? As in, when it might have been built? I have a friend who loves history, and he could probably pinpoint when it might be built..."
Of course, said 'friend' is the King himself, but there's no reason for Cor to let the mayor know about that trivial little detail.
no subject
Date: 2018-08-27 12:07 am (UTC)βAh, well..β The mayor looks over Corβs shoulder as the two volunteers return down the stairs and into the foyer. βIt looks as if the boy is .. ready?β He questions the others and they both nod their head. βWell, if you will.. follow me,β he begins to stand, itβs obvious the mayor intends to go with this stranger as he βtalksβ to the boy.
no subject
Date: 2018-08-27 12:30 am (UTC)But why preserve such a young vampire? And what happened to his sire? The mayor doesn't seem pleased at the idea of anyone poking around the ruins, though...he will have to wait until he speaks to the boy before he could make...certain calls.
"Of course." And of course, this guy wouldn't let Cor speak to the kid by himself. Then again, the Marshall hasn't exactly let his name be spoken just yet. That particular info, he's going to wait until the end of his little 'chat'.
And speaking of which... Cor glances around the place as he's led to Sora's room, taking in as many details as possible. Can the kid leave of his own free will, if he so wishes? Is there anything holding him back - guards, protection spells, and so forth? Or is the mayor just letting him stay since he's still so new to the world as it is right now?

Date: 2020-06-22 02:35 am (UTC)Even further, there were musings on whether the child came from across enemy lines. Was this mysterious child a captive prisoner? Rumors and whispers would continue to go unanswered. Even Prince Noctis knows only some truth, but not all of it.
Regis, however, knew it all as Cor confined in him the findings of the child born from an egg. Through Cor and Sora's travels back to the crown city Insomnia, it was soon abundantly clear the daemons did not have any interest in Sora either. They would surpass him in the fights and go straight for Cor. Regis wondered on the properties of this vampire child if he was indeed a fabled beast, or was he a different type of daemon? Months have passed since Sora was admitted into the citadel. Months in which Sora was studied, spoken to, even humanely experimented on in the form of external stimulation: mostly to do with memory retrieval. Sora's memory was still as foggy about his past as it was when he woke, but his new memories were strong, and his recollection was as common as anyone else's. Nothing notable, at least, with his ability to recollect memories from the time he woke.
The village who had lost their prophet-son had been quiet for all this time. However, the town had not forgotten the immortal child - nor the man who stole Sora.
It was dusk, the sun was well on its way down, and the weather was a pleasant warmth. Cor is stationed in the citadel, specifically his office. The king's guards made their rounds with a familiar echo with each step they took in unison through their patrol. An unexpected rush of feet broke across the steady sound of the patrolmen's footsteps. The feet made long strides, and their boots squeaked across the slick floor as they turn toward Cor's office. A heavy hand came hard and heavy on Cor's wooden door. "Sir!" A familiar voice of one Nyx Ulric filters through the wood. "Cor!?"

Date: 2020-06-22 04:10 am (UTC)As it is, the only rumors Cor's dispelling is the idea that the boy is Regis' illegitimate child. His King has never taken a (female) lover since his queen Aulea's passing, so focused was he on both his son and being a good ruler; thus, those rumors were the easiest to quell. Still, they're going to have to do something to satisfy everyone's curiosity soon...
Cor's dutifully working on a few proposals regarding how best to move forward with Sora. The main point in all of them is that the lad needs a merciful master in the vampyric ways, and that he should be allowed to eventually become an apprentice of either the Crownsguard or the Kingsglaives once his final examinations are finished. At no point did Cor state that the lad is a danger to the country, save as that he is too easy a target for the wrong people to manipulate--
The rush of feet and sudden knocking breaks his concentration. But before he could snap at the person on the other side of the door, he hears that familiar voice. Rising from his desk, he quickly crosses his office to open the door. "Report, Ulric. What's happening?" After all, Nyx Ulric wouldn't be like this unless there's a dire threat, last he checked...

Date: 2020-06-22 06:17 pm (UTC)Nyx waited for Cor to have finished reading before he asked, "what do they want with Noctis?" Furthermore, "this doesn't feel like the Niffs.."

Date: 2020-06-22 06:49 pm (UTC)And now he's been captured by those same villagers...
"I doubt it would be the Imperials - they would have better wording, for one." But he frowns still as he rereads the letter. He knows this isn't for Noctis, but how to convey that without setting off everyone's alarms... "Any word about Cindy - his granddaughter? Has she been captured too, or did she manage to get free of them?" He's hoping that she did, and that she would be on her way to the nearest Hunter's Outpost for help.

Date: 2020-06-22 06:56 pm (UTC)"I don't know, but we're awaiting your orders. Anything you need us to do." It wasn't easy, however, to imagine a tactic for dealing with this when they weren't sure who it was they were dealing with! If it wasn't the opposing Nifs, then who?

Date: 2020-06-22 07:13 pm (UTC)"Have your best scouters get out there and survey the area from the outskirts," he orders Nyx. "I need info on where Cid is being held, by who, and if there are any other hostages involved as well. I want a full report by daybreak, and a copy on the desks of both King and Shield. Oh, and tell Drautos that he can grouch at me for ordering you and your people around after this crisis is resolved."
Cor pauses. "When you're done passing those orders along, join me in his Majesty's office. We might need your keen warping skills before this is all over. Understood?"
